Prescription for Stress

Take one good friend, some good food, and a festive place to enjoy it all and what do you have?  A simple cure for the winter blahs, bad work day, stress, etc.  That is exactly what I did today.  No creative fixes today, I apologize.  Dr. Bresette-Yates and I did purchase some sad little items looking for a new life, but unfortunately they did not get their second chance yet.  I needed a little R&R.

No worries though, cause it is time to get a ScrapFix!

I was planning on making a card for my DH for Valentines day.  The idea was to trace my hands onto some heavy paper or cardstock and have a dimensional heart inside the card that would pop out when he opened it.  "I will give you my heart!"

With the BasicGrey Pheobe collection in hand I set about my task.  I traced my hands onto a folded piece of BG paper and carefully cut on the lines.  I tore another paper to create the cuff at the bottom and hit the edges with some distress ink.  "B Mine" was created using the alpha stickers from BG.  I added the paper ring for an extra touch.

Inside, I hit the entire card with more distress ink.  I continued the cuff on the inside to add a little extra something.  Here is the fun part.  Oh Martha, Martha, Martha you evil woman you!  I managed to track down the way cool honeycomb paper used in your Christmas issue last year.  It took a little time to figure out just how to cut it, but I did it.  I shaped it a little by trimming the center of the heart down.  A little double stick tape holds the heart in place, and voila, one fun, unique handmade card for my DH.

alive and kickin

Despite a few close calls, the patient has been given new life.
Challengepieceone A simple fix.  Good ole distressing techniques using an emery board and distress ink.
I found the original pieces to be a bit shiny for my tastes, but now it works for me.

The next piece is a similar fix, but I decided some surgery was needed.  I removed the midsection, creating a frame for a vintage photo of my mom and 2 of her sisters.  Some distressing with emery board and ink, and a little glitter, and my little clearance piece breathes new life.

Clearancechallenge2Sistershaveheartdetail Sistershaveheart_1 All in all it was a fun night in the studio.  I even worked on a piece for a friend.  Check out my other blog for a peak.

Paging Dr. Bresette-Yates

No Dr. Willey is fine, but these really cool embellishments are taking in their last breath.  The need help STAT.

What better way to charge up your creativity then to get something for practically nothing and make it in to something priceless (no pressure there).

Interns here is your first assignment:
Take a trip to your local scrap/craft store and go directly pass go, straight to the clearance bin.  (If it helps only take $5 in cash with you that way you won't be tempted to over do it).  Flip through the clearance items and see what you turn up.  I scored some 7Gypsies porcelain enamel tags for next to nothing.  Gather up those goodies and give them new life.  When you finish, post it in an online gallery and send us the link.  Oh and permission to post it on our blog with artist credit (that would be you) or not.

Thanks!  Now, go out there and create!  Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

tune in Monday to see what happens next...
